Big Blue Ranch is a great place to experience a real Nebraska cattle drive. Help us move the cattle to greener pastures by riding along in the pickup and leading the herd through the next gate. Then watch cows, calves and bulls hurry past the truck as they approach fresh grassland. It's an amazing site with over 800 cattle rushing by.
Or, maybe you would prefer to ride a horse at the back of the cattle herd driving the meandering calves, pushing them to catch up with their mothers. From a horse, you can even help us identify any slow cattle that might need to be cut out, or separated for special attention.
We offer guided trail rides through the prairies, down the draws and past the ponds. You can brush your horse, see how to saddle and bridle it and we'll adjust the stirrups to fit. You'll enjoy this working cattle ranch the way the cowboys rode the land. If you'd like to take a hayrack ride, we'll hitch up the wagon and give you a ride.
Year round ranch tours are offered for groups wanting to learn about a working cattle ranch. We will tell you about the ranch history, stewardship and conservation; demonstrate how to use a cattle chute and lanes; show you cutting horses, saddles and tack and demonstrate various gaits such as walk, trot, lope, sidepass and backing.
We will take you to see the native prairie, woodlands and hedge rows where we will discuss grasslands, Nebraska pioneer settlements, native Nebraska birds and wildlife, and give you a tour of the Big Blue Lodge. From May 1st to October 1st, you can see our cattle herds grazing in the tall grassland prairie.
