FAQ's About Big Blue Ranch Adventures

What should I bring?

Bring good walking shoes. This is the countryside and surfaces are uneven. Bring binoculars to help you see what's walking on or flying over the next hill. Bring layered clothing. This is Nebraska and the weather can change from summer to winter in the same day. Bring your own toiletries such as shampoo, toothpaste, etc. With outdoor activities, you should bring a change of clothes for each day, and make sure to bring your camera.

Can I bring my pet?

Family pets would be much happier if left at home with someone to care for them. The Big Blue Lodge is designed for people. Please leave your pets at home.

Is smoking allowed?

The lodge is a non-smoking facility. Although smoking is strictly prohibited inside the lodge, guests may smoke on the covered porches or outdoors. Smokers may extinguish cigarettes outside using the sand we have in clay pots on the porches. We wouldn't want anyone to start a prairie fire.

Where can I buy groceries?

Just 10 miles from the Big Blue Lodge is the village of Summerfield, Kansas. They have a nice grocery store with food, drinks, charcoal, etc. It is open for scheduled hours each day, except for some holidays. They are even open a couple of hours on Sunday mornings.

Is there a television and telephone?

In order to fully appreciate nature, enjoy all the ranch has to offer, and escape the trappings of day to day life, the lodge is free of television and telephone. Guests are welcome to bring their own portable DVD player, laptop computer, or cellular phone if desired. DVDs can be rented at the grocery store in Summerfield, Kansas just 10 miles away.

Can I bring my laptop?

Big Blue Ranch & Lodge is a place to relax and reconnect with the people you come with, so you decide if you want to bring your laptop. There is no internet connection.

What about cell phones?

Most cell phones will work at the Big Blue Lodge, but you can turn them off if you want to enjoy the peace and quiet or the sounds of nature.

Where can I get a Nebraska hunting or fishing license?

Before your arrival at the Big Blue Ranch & Lodge, you can purchase a hunting or fishing license on line from the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission at http://www.ngpc.state.ne.us. Short term fishing licenses may also be purchased from local banks during regular banking hours.

Is there a radio?

Yes. Big Blue Lodge has a radio for you to listen to local stations and weather reports. It can also play CDs, cassettes and even records. Bring the music that makes you happy.
